GP Police Snared Out-of-State Fugitive Who Requested Ride to Sobering Center
Grants Pass Police apprehended an out-of-state fugitive early yesterday after a report of suspicious activity at a north-city gas station and convenience store.
The Police Department reports officers arrested 61-year-old Lucian Leroy Boyer at the GPPD west gate on NW 6th Street on Tuesday shortly after 2 a.m..
Police said Boyer went to the Pinnacle 365 in the 1,000-block of NW 6th to ask how to get to the police station. He told the attendant that he wanted officers to take him to the Grants Pass Sobering Center. Once he arrived at the station, he called 9-1-1 and requested transport to the Sobering Center.
Once officers identified the man as Boyer, they discovered that he was wanted by the Washington State Department of Corrections for Felony 2nd-Degree Assault and Escape. He was also wanted on a Clackamas County warrant for failing to appear in court for impaired driving.
Boyer was placed into custody and transported to the Josephine County Jail where he was booked on the warrants. He was being held without bail pending extradition proceedings that will likely send him back to Washington.
