Two Crashes on Icy Highland Avenue Overpass Sent Two People to Hospital
Two separate crashes approximately 30 minutes apart on the Highland Avenue overpass sent two people to the hospital with minor injuries early yesterday. Both crashes mobilized a combination of rescue units from Rural Metro Fire Department, Grants Pass Fire & Rescue and American Medical Response. Rural Metro officials said the second crash resulted in the vehicle rolling over. Initial reports indicated one occupant was trapped inside their vehicle, but they were able to self-extricate. Officials said icy conditions on the overpass in northwest Grants Pass contributed to both crashes. Motorists are reminded that during cold weather, overpasses and bridges are highly susceptible to ice buildup due to cold air passing underneath.
