Suspect Ran from Officers after Noise Complaint, Lodged for Meth Possession
Officers with Grants Pass Police arrested a man for Possession of Methamphetamine following a brief chase.

A caller on Reddy Street reported to dispatch this morning at 3:05 a.m. that two men were heard yelling at each other, possibly in the area of the upper gazebo at Riverside Park.

Officers were unable to locate any disturbance upon arrival, and warned two individuals about park hours. The previous reporting party then called 911 again, saying the yelling could be coming from The Lucky Lizard at 261 Rogue River Highway.

Law enforcement investigated, and one suspect began running from the side door of the building. Officers located the man, identified as Jeffrey Richards, behind the business in the bushes. He smoked a white substance from a glass pipe in front of the officers upon contact.

An investigation determined no crime had occurred, and no entry had been made in the building. It was unclear why Richards ran from officers, but he was ultimately taken into custody after the substance he smoked tested positive for meth. He wouldn't identify himself or speak with officers, and he was lodged in the Adult Jail Facility.

ODF Southwest Oregon District to Declare Fire Season Friday, May 15th
News Image
The Oregon Department of Forestry Southwest Oregon District will officially declare the start of fire season on Friday, May 15, at 12:01 a.m. According to ODF, the fire danger level will be “Low” (green) and the Industrial Fire Precaution Level will be '1'. Lands affected by this declaration include 1.8 million acres of state, private, county, city, and Bureau of Land Management forestlands in Jackson and Josephine counties. Snowpack across the state and local landscape is minimal, and drought conditions across both counties are contributing to dry vegetation and an increased risk for fires to start and spread earlier in the year. Fire risk and behavior will naturally increase as conditions continue to trend toward warmer summer-like weather. For more information about the Oregon Department of Forestry’s Fire Season regulations, call the Grants Pass ODF unit at 541-474-3152, or the Medford Unit at 541-664-3328.
